An exquisite drawing in red-ocher ink from the late-nineteenth to early-twentieth century. A man, doing his best to perch comfortably on a stone by leaning his right arm on his travel pack, gazes at a headstone. Given the context and pose of the figure, and the fact that the spectator shares the same perspective, we are invited to sympathize with him. Possibly in traveling attire, the figure wears a sun hat, vest, and clogs. Note the deft hatching and detail to the fabric of his clothes. Framed behind glass.
Condition and wear consistent with age and use.
